WENDY JOHNSON CERAMICS
My passion for ceramics began early in life and has strengthened and evolved as I have myself. It's a constant exploration of natural experience, thought and a sensitivity to sources of inspiration. Heading on to planning and execution of ideas, utilizing new and reworked techniques. Work develops in the many stages of making from initial concept to working in the studio evolving further before becoming a unique, abstract representation.

In traditional kiln firing method current exploration is based on sea, coastal rock formations and scree created by harsh erosion of pounding oceans. Land mass changes over time, the seas and oceans change every moment. Work represents the seas interface with coast. Wave forms are represented on vessels and wall art using coloured clays and slips as a base before laying over multiple glazes to represent the depth and colour of the ocean from deepest dark to its frothing white edges.

Raku, this harsh dramatic firing technique, captivates and fascinates with drama and unpredictability. Uniquely marked forms inspired by ancient artworks, architecture, furniture and geology. With attention to smooth or burnished surfaces and form as a canvas for the unknown results resists are used to create black areas of interest.
Every piece of ceramic art tells a story. I strive to create unique pieces that inspire and delight. My philosophy is rooted in a deep appreciation of the art of ceramics and a commitment to excellence.
